What is the general life of M 2 solid state drives?
At present, there are mainly two types of hard disks on the surface. One is the traditional mechanical hard disk. It is not a problem to use it casually for three to five years. After three to five years, as long as there is no problem with the mechanical structure, it is only a drop in performance and a little noise.
The second type is the solid-state hard disk necessary for DIY installation. Compared with the mechanical hard disk, the reading and writing speed of the solid-state hard disk is much faster, there is no mechanical structure, and there is no noise in operation.
is different from the principle of mechanical hard disk data storage. The life of solid state hard disk is generally determined by the life of flash memory particles, and the life of flash memory particles will decrease with the increase of write times and capacity. At present, the mainstream SATA interface and the solid-state storage principle of the M.2 interface are the same, there is no difference, they are all flash memory particles.
There are four types of flash memory particles from high end to low end, SLC\MLC\TLC\QLC. We will not elaborate on the storage principle of different particles, only need to know that the higher-end flash memory particles have a higher write life.
SLC has a write life of 100000 times, MLC with lower cost has a write life of only 10000 times, while cheap TLC flash memory has a poor write life of 500-1000 times. QLC need not say much.
